Stuck in Madrid. Help please

Basically, me and a friend have interrail passes which are valid from the 1st of August, so we flew out to madrid for a couple of days before our journey began. However, we didn't realise that we would have to get reservations for absolutely every train in spain, and that we'd have to wait 3 days for them to be delivered (At a cost of €17, for a piece of paper which could easily be digital). So now we've got just over 2 days to somehow arrange a train to Barcelona without breaking the bank. Does anyone know what we can do? Can we get a reservation at the train station or beg them to let us on without one? This whole system just seems to defeat the purpose of "jumping on a train and going anywhere", because you have to know multiple days in advance where you're going, and wait for the reservations to arrive. Thanks for reading.
