My friends are moving across country in a few weeks (from Seattle to New Jersey) and one of the surprising difficulties they have come up against is transporting their cat.
To add to the complexity, they will be staying in an extended stay for about a month before they can move into their new place. So, in addition to transporting the cat across country, they will be moving again (which, from what they tell me, is hard on cats).
Driving across country with the cat in the car is not-an-option. So they see two possibilities:
1) Take the cat on the plane (as carry-on) in a carrier under the seat. Have it live with them in Extended Stay for a month then move to their new home.
2) Drive across country, leave cat with in-laws until moved into new home then have the cat shipped across country (apparently cat-shipping services exist).
Does anyone out there have cat-moving experience? Assuming that the cost is pretty comparable, which would a) be easier on the cat, and b) be easier on the humans?
