For everyone booking the awesome Priceline fare deals currently...

Remember to search for return flights BEFORE you hit buy on priceline otherwise you might end up spending quite a bit more than you intended to.

The reason I feel the need to say this is that I know there are some people who are going to get caught up in the frenzy and end up buying a ticket for $150-$300 because they can afford it, but won't be able to afford a $1k+ one way ticket to get back home.

1 way tickets from Asia are NOT cheap. However, there are still a few things you can do to make the deal more manageable.

  • Use your frequent flier miles. American Airlines and United allow for 1 way award fairs. Seoul to the US is only 25k AA miles. You can find various flights for 25-35k depending on if it's AA or UA. Remember, you don't have to fly out of the city you flew into. I'm flying to NRT but flying back to the US from ICN. I get another country to visit on my trip this way. You should be able to find award travel from the following cities, PVG, PEK, SIN, ICN, NRT, ITM, HKG. There are probably others but those are the ones that I know work most of the time.

  • Along with the previous point, test out flying from other cities if a direct flight back is too expensive. While you'll have to spend money to travel from one city to another for your flight home it will still let you travel a little bit more.
