Looking for somewhere to backpack the beginning of July for cheap, any ideas?

I'm flying from Vancouver and only looking to spend 1200 or less. Will be backpacking with my boyfriend who has never been before but I have been to 14 countries Just seeing what you guys suggest, things we should see, places to stay? cheers
