Hello! I am trying to plan a trip to Peru and I am not sure if I am giving myself too much/too little time in each city. I would appreciate some insight! Here is our tentative schedule:
Saturday- Arrive in Lima at 7pm, stay the night in Lima
Sunday- Fly from Lima to Cusco in the morning, relax in Cusco to adjust to the altitude & explore the town. Spend the night in Cusco
Monday- Spend another day in Cusco or make a day trip to one of the sacred valley towns. Spend the night in Cusco
Tuesday- Take an early morning train to Ollantytambo. Explore the town. Spend the night in Ollantytambo.
Wednesday- Earliest train to Aguas Calientes- Spend the day hiking Machu Picchu (We were considering hiking Huayna Picchu- can we do this +all of the other ruins/views in one day, or would we need an extra day for the hike?) Train back to Ollantytambo. Spend the night in Ollantytambo.
Thursday- Early morning train from Ollantytambo to Cusco. Inca Express bus from Cusco to Puno. Have the afternoon to explore Lake Titicaca/Puno. Spend the night in Puno (or I've heard of island home stays. Has anyone done one? They sound pretty cool!- In general, would it be easier to book a guided tour through Lake Titicaca, or better to do it on our own?)
Friday- Explore Lake Titicaca. Spend the night in Lake Titicaca/Puno
Saturday- Early flight from Puno to Lima. Spend the Day/Night in Lima
Sunday- Fly out of Lima
I know this is a rushed schedule but I think it is doable. Let me know if you have any suggestions please! I would love to hear about your itinerary if you were in Peru for a similar amount of time!
