Yeah, we're going to be those people: Flying with a toddler in United BusinessFirst, looking for advice on sleeping arrangements.

Background: My family (husband, wife, soon to be 17 month-old) is deploying overseas this summer. In preparation for this, we've been banking miles, and we managed to secure seats in United BusinessFirst for a 7.5 hour overnighter.

Before anyone goes off about babies and flying, our kid is a pretty good flyer and has made half a dozen longer flights as well as a couple of delayed-on-the-tarmac flights (that took hours longer than expected) without flipping out. Also we booked seats facing a bulkhead, and we will be on either side of the baby, with the possibility of only one other person in our row.

We've read on several forums that bringing the car seat is beneficial to helping the baby sleep, but these posts seem to be geared toward coach.

A couple of questions:

  • Has anyone flown with a baby / toddler in United BusinessFirst and do you have any advice?

  • Would you recommend letting the kid try to sleep in the lie-flat seat or try to use the carseat?

Thanks for your help.
