Need help planning my first trip over to Europe with a roughly $5000 budget and 3-4 weeks to spend there.

Hey guys next summer I want to make my first trip over to Europe I know I still got quite a bit of time to plan but I want to get as much sorted out as possible.

Basically what I have in my head right now is to fly into

  • Budapest spend roughly about 3-4 days there then go to

  • Prague and again spend about 3-4 days

  • Salzburg 3-4

  • and then somewhere in Italy with nice churches, castles etc (old buildings you can thank Assassins Creed for this idea lol)

I picked these cities since they seem to have some of the nicer buildings from the looks of it and I often see Prague and Budapest recommended on here.

Basically the things that I want to get the most of out of my trip is see some awesome looking buildings love architecture it's what I'm in school for, check out some museums since I love history, maybe meet some people (I'll be for sure staying at a hostel) and maybe even check out some like haunted buildings or something if they believe in that kinda stuff over in Europe like they do here.

Now the most dificult thing that I've run into in terms of planning is my budget in general and travel within Europe.

In terms if an overall budget I kind have been just surfing the web and came up with a ballpark ~$5000 (will be less after flight costs) budget for the 16-20 days I plan to spend overseas. I honestly have no clue whether that will be too much too little etc.

For the most part I'm assuming

  • Accomadation $35/day

  • Food $30-40/day

  • Genreal spending for attractions etc $50

And then for transport within Europe I do want to take train just to check out the countryside and what not but all the Eurail etc websites online have just been overwhelming and I have no idea where to start looking.

And then I guess I'm just also open to any other suggestions on where to visit like I said places with cool I guess medieval age architecture and a rich history is mostly what I'm looking for.

In terms of packing for the trip I want to go as light as possible pretty much just live out of my backpack What I know I'll have for sure is:

  • Camera

  • Ipad

  • Sweater something akin to a hoodie

  • 2-3 Shirts

  • 1-2 pairs of pants or shorts

  • enough underwear and socks for a week

Just some extra bits:

  • Being Canadian I can speak both French and English, is there any other languages I should pick up on?

  • I'm planning on doing this trip anywhere between April and August.

  • Recommended website for travel withing Europe, flights to Europe and hostels.

  • Good website for checking out what to do in these cities that isn't Reddit lol

  • And I guess any general tips would be great.

Any advice would be great guys sorry if you guys are sick of these kind of posts but I honestly don't know where else to get this info as well as it is given here.
