I know that online it says that in order to cross the border by car/foot you need a US passport/card. However, I have heard from people that they crossed recently without one, all they needed was extra proof, such as another form of ID or birth certificate. I am just concerned i'll get stuck in Mexico while trying to get back to California. I also do not want to spend money on a passport that's not going to get delivered on time.
