I'm a Canadian and I'm a little outraged by the prices of visas. First, visa pictures will cost 15-20$ for two pictures. I went to the cheapest photo place at Jane and Finch in Toronto and got 4 pictures for $15. But then the guy tells me chinese visas require a different sized pictures than the Vietnamese, so that s another 15$. Is this even true? Then i made my way to visacenter.ca office, hoping the visa was 68.75$. But i think that s for the e-visa, that you can use only at certain airports. The clerk didn t even know the difference between evisas and visas. Anyway to get the Vietnamese paper visa apparently it costs 180$ and the chinese visa is 110$ + stamping fees at the border. Then another guy came in and started pushing me to get the cambodia and laos visas. I said no and left, didn t buy a single visa. My friend who recently went to SEA, got the vietnamese visa there for 100$ which in my mind is still pricey. Im trying to backpack with a small budget, I simply cannot spend a quarter of my budged on visas. Should i just try and get visas there? why is it cheaper. And in all honesty, what is even the point of a visa, it s pushing me away from visiting those countries.
