My wife and I are headed to Japan this fall for the first time. It'll be our first time traveling in a non-European or North American country. We're super excited to be plunged into a totally different culture.
We really don't like shopping and will be limiting our time in Tokyo. We're more interested in the surrounding sites. Temples, Mt. Fuji, etc. We had debated staying in Tokyo for the whole trip and taking trains to day trips but would rather spend time in Fuji and Kyoto for the less urbanized Japan experience.
If we were from somewhere else and was visiting the USA, we'd spend a little time in NYC and then head to Yellowstone for the week.
I would like to rely on trains and public transit for the whole trip. I really don't want to have to rent a car.
I haven't picked out my individual items, but at a high level how does this look?
