To take a break from a relationship while traveling abroad or to do long distance...

I have been with my S.O. for about 2 years now. We live together and are both in a happy relationship. The start of 2015, I will be traveling alone throughout South East Asia (SEA) for about 5 months. Right now we are talking about what our best option would be for when I leave.

The relationship is pretty serious for our age, we are both 21 years old and have lived together for about a 1.5 years now. But what is the logical thing to do as far as our relationship goes? I know that while I am traveling I will be going out at night time meeting other travelers and locals, so I understand that there is a good chance of hookups, especially based on SEA's reputation.

And she will be 21 right before I leave for my trip so she and her friends can go out to the bars together since our town has an amazing nightlife scene.

It just seems logical to take a break until I get back, so we don't worry about each other cheating, and we are both understanding that things do happen when we'll be away for this long. I am curious what my fellow Redditor's opinions are.

*Should we take break, and if so, do we set guidelines for anything?
