Hi! I consider myself lucky to have travelled around the world: Europe, South America, North America, India, Russia, Northern Africa. I saw the most amazing things!
However, my best experiences and long lasting memories are all related to people. And the best occurred when I finally met a local person that invited me to some kind of local event. Like when I went to the roof of an hotel in Egypt, or a Russian cottage with an ex-soviet cop, or tapas with Spanish firefighters, diner with Peruvians, clubbing with Germans, picnicking with the French, music concert with Portugueses, house party with Dutchs...
I am really grateful but it did not happen often. Meeting locals is not the easiest and getting invited to a local event can be hard.
But why should it be?
I am currently developing a platform where, as a local, you can post your local event or activity for which you would be willing to accept travelers. To give locals an incentive to post their local event, we will offer the opportunity for locals to get your event "sponsored" by a traveler. For example, let's say you are doing a BBQ at your place with friends, why not get some of the beer and meet patties sponsored by the traveler in exchange for an invitation. The event could also be free if the local wants too.
It is definitely something that I would use but, would you? If you did, what would be your main consideration? Would you mind paying in exchange for an invitation? Which activities would you like?
