There's so much to see and do. I know I cannot do it all, but I'd like some input on my very rough plan.
Oh, forgot to mention I arrive tomorrow. I'm currently in Portugal and I'm taking the train up to Santiago de Compostela and will be there for a few days during the Feast of St. James before taking off to check out other parts of the country.
About me: American, 30s, traveling Europe with no set return date, speak Spanish and Portuguese
Likes: cultural things (festivals. crafts, etc.), history, ruins, good cheap food, hiking, beautiful scenery, cool buildings
Dislikes: beaches and most art museums (however I do like unusual exhibits. I'm just not too crazy about looking paintings all day).
Ideal Duration: ~2-3 weeks.
My general plan has me starting in Santiago de Compostela (going there tomorrow), and making some sort of straight shot across the north, heading to Barcelona, followed by the south before working my way up to Madrid before flying out.
I'm thinking about Santiago-->Oviedo-->Santender-->Bilbao-->San Sebaatian-->Barcelona-->Valencia-->???
But I think there are some problems. First, it seems like I'm trying to cram too much in and secondly, it seems a little "beach heavy."
As this is my first trip to Spain, maybe I should just stick to the big highlights and save the rest for a later visit.
What do you think? Any itinerary suggestions?
Thanks!
