First time traveling on my own, going to go see my SO in Okinawa and I'm pretty nervous.

For my anniversary and also in memory of my grandmother who died this year (she always wanted to go to Japan), I worked up the cash to go to Okinawa to see my fiance. I'm leaving on September 26, and want to return on October 6th. Of course, travel takes time when you're crossing oceans so I'll be arriving on the 28th. The ticket says it will cost $1277 if I buy it from CheapFareGuru and I'm definitely getting travel insurance for a total of $1343. The thing that makes me super anxious about this whole thing is that I will have to fly through Icheon International in South Korea. Has anyone ever been there, and if so, is it easy to navigate and safe? How's the airport food situation? I don't have a specific budget, but keep in mind I'm in school and work at a grocery store, so I'm in no way rich. Everyone I know is raving about how I'll get kidnapped, or somehow die/get lost on my way there and back. As far as hotels and stuff, I'm staying in lodging on Camp Hansen with my SO. Another thing I'm worried about is that I won't be able to get a ride to base. If I can't, what's the best way to get a cab from the airport in Naha and how much does that cost on average? Also, how much yen should I carry with me? Most of my travels will be my fiance showing me around, since he lives there, but I just want to be prepared. I've never been out of the country except to Canada when I was around 5, so any advice is helpful. I'm the ultimate newbie and I'm not exactly sure where to go with all my questions other than here, so if I ask something stupid or obvious I apologize. Thank you!
