Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are travelling to Ireland and Scotland in September and I wanted a little bit of advice from anyone who has travelled through. It is both of our first time travelling to Europe (we have travelled extensively in South and Central America as well as the USA.
I have a rough outline of things we want to do. We are much more interested in seeing the natural beauty and hiking than we are in seeing cities. We are in Ireland for 6 days and the outline of our plan is to stay/see County Clare, County Kerry, Aran Islands, and Killarney. Flying into and out of Dublin.
What else would you recommend? We are renting a car. I do not have any hotel reservations as of yet.
Should I reserve all nights ahead of time? My plan was to go with an outline of a plan and find hotels/hostels/B&Bs/etc. while we are there.
In Scotland we are also renting a car, however for 4 days. We fly into Glasgow and are most interested in the highlands, and have been tossing around the idea of the Isle of Skye. My ancestors are from Clan Colquhun in Luss, near Loch Lomond. I would like to see Glencoe.
-Any other recommendations?
-Should we make a point to see Edinburgh for a day?
-Is the Isle of Skye worth the 5+hour drive from Glasgow?
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. We are both 26, love hiking, interested in things which may be considered off the beaten path. Both drinkers, pub/night life is not a must but is always welcome.
