What are the best cities in the world to visit for a few months where you can pay under $1000/month in rent?

It's hard to do in NYC, London or Tokyo, but I rented a room for two months in a pretty nice apartment in a good neighborhood of Buenos Aires for $500/ month. What are other cool cities that have a cheap cost of living?
