Visiting NYC in a couple weeks and would like some recommendations for restaurants/things to do in Greenwich Village/Soho area

My mom and I are going to be visiting the city in a couple of weeks and have a couple of days to kill. We want to check out some cool stuff, but need a few suggestions.

We're going to be staying in Greenwich Village, but plan to explore SoHo, the East village and other parts of lower Manhattan. We're going to be avoiding Midtown. Would really love to get some help with this so we're not floundering around in all the options.

A little about what we need some help with:

:: We're foodies with a pretty decent budget planned for dining, but we don't want to confine ourselves to fine dining. Totally happy to venture off the beaten path for some quality food. We love to explore. We are open to all kinds of food and would appreciate recommendations for all meals (lunch, brunch, dinner).

:: I'm not able to drink legally yet, and my mom isn't a huge drinker...so not really focusing our trip on big night life spots. But if there's a great nightlife spot for food that happens to be a bar as well, we're not ruling it out.

:: We're both pretty fit and plan to walk everywhere. Any good lookout points or rooftop spots we should see? Basically any cool shop or store -- we'd love to check it out. Again, we're wide open for exploring these neighborhoods.
