My 2 friends and I are travelling to France in a few weeks and we are looking for that fine line between cheap and nice places to stay for just 3 days, 2 nights in Paris. We are then travelling down south to Lyon then to Nice (haven't done any research on that yet -any brief tips would be appreciated) But so far we've found some hostels (I'm open for other options, the other girls not as much) that seem pretty pricey - I realize its Paris, but 100pds is steep. So I'm wondering if you fine people know of anywhere or ways to sleep? Also is there a better option for the Metro pass? We do want to make our way to Versailles so the zone 1-5 seems like the way to go. I can't remember for certain but I thought the last time I was in Paris I had the Orange card. Would it just be better to do a pay a per-use for the 3 days we are there? Or staying outside the city-centre?
