Questions for 1st international flight - only 1 hour layover - what is the process like?

I'm departing Indianapolis for a trip to London. I have a connecting flight in Philadelphia on US Airways. I just realized that my IND>PHL flight arrives at 8:48pm, and the PHL>London flight leaves at 9:50.

I haven't flown very much, and never internationally. What is the process like? I am traveling alone, and realize that I should know ahead of time where I am going in the airport and be prepared to move quickly. Is this going to be doable (assuming the first flight is on time of course), or should I try to have it changed? Is there a way to check how often a certain flight is on time? Will I have my boarding pass for both flights when I check-in in Indianapolis?

I'm really nervous about this, and don't want to miss the Int'l flight and have my vacation cut short waiting for the next one.
