Two friends and I are doing a road trip down and up the east coast starting from NYC down to Key West and up again. The whole trip will be roughly 3.5 weeks in August.
We already planned out the way down and up again up to Savannah. But from there we have 5 days left to drive up to NYC, which is a lot and I would like to know what you could recommend to see and visit on the trip.
We are pretty open minded regarding visiting cities or hiking in a beautiful state park or similar. A day on the beach is also an option, especially if it's a nice beach and somewhere hidden with only few people.
What we already visit on the way down:
- Sightseeing in NYC, Philadelphia, DC, Charleston, Savannah
- Gettysburg as a historic sight from the Civil War
- Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Everglades, maybe Biscayne Bay
- Kennedy Space Center
- Key West and the other keys
What we already think about to do:
- Wright Brothers National Monument
Some information to us in case that matters for recommendations:
- mid 20s
- Germans
- already travelled quite a bit in Europe: UK, France, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria...
- I lived in the Bay Area for a year and really liked trips to the national parks there as well as for example driving down Highway 1 from SF to LA. I liked SF and Chicago, LA somehow not so much, but maybe I just visited the wrong places.
- hotels are the preferred place to stay
- If you need more information to give good tips I'm happy to answer.
I'd really appreciate hints and ideas on what is worth a visit. Also hints for cool things in the cities that are not well known but we should do are appreciated.
