Help! Where should our next vacation be?

My wife and I are looking to go on a trip between October - December. We've had a tough time figuring out where we would like to go, so we are hoping the reddit community can help us out. Here is some information -

1. We are not interested in Mexico or Hawaii. (Unless you have a good argument and can change our mind)


2. We live in the Pacific Northwest


3. We would like a trip where there are many activities (ie day trips, places of interest, great places to eat) I say this because we're not interested in laying around a pool all day. Although, the option would be nice.


4. We're both fairly active


5. We are open to places here in the United States or overseas.
   


6. Budget: $ 4,000
