My friend is a pilot for United and offered to list me on his discount plan, which is $200/year.
Basically, I can fly anywhere that United goes for "free" on standby. I currently live in Minneapolis and will likely be moving to Dallas soon. Neither have a ton of United traffic, but they do go direct to Chicago, SFO, LAX, Newark and Denver.
Would this be worth it to you? The biggest concern I have is that I typically travel with my wife, and she would not get this offer, meaning it could make traveling together difficult.
Also, we're heading to Miami in November, have family in Minneapolis, friends in Denver and friends in NYC.
